Hi Jay,

That would be kind of hard to do without knowing what you looked like. If you are a bigger guy, you might want to consider getting a set of sunglasses where the temples curve, they way you don't have a lot of pressure on the sides of your head. Not being stereotypical, but a lot of guys who like Oakleys are bigger guys. Comfort would be my main focus since it might be possible that you'd be wearing them most of the day.

Hi Garry. Ran across ur blog and read the article. Nice one. Could you help me out? I would like to get the perfect frame (color, shape and all). Was looking into Oakleys but don't know which shape or colour would match my face.

Hi Patricia,

You are very welcome. I am happy to discover that my article was helpful for you and most importantly that it will help put an end to costly mistakes, which I must say, is not your fault at all. Unfortunately, it is the failure of most eyecare practices to recognize that more and more people are using computers hours on end through out the day.

This is the exact information I have been looking for. I did go to an optician about my problem, which is specifically having trouble reading stuff on my laptop, but he brushed me off. I'm going to go to someone else. I was wondering about bifocals, but as someone who suffers from neck problems and who has to spend a lot of time on the computer, I can see why it's not a good solution for me especially. Thanks so much for setting me straight before I made more expensive mistakes, lol.

You are an educated eyeglass wearer. ;)

Very true, as mentioned below, Transitions are activated by UV light and windshields block those wonderful rays.

Transitions are activated by UV light. Unfortunately most all windshields block UV light and that is why they don't work well while driving. It is kind of the only disadvantage. Like you said, it is a great idea to have a pair of prescription sunglasses for driving. However, another option is to purchase an eyeglass frame that comes with a sunglass clip-on. These are very cool, but I would choose a frame that has the magnetic clip rather for extra ease of removing and inserting.

You sure can! There are no limitations with Transitions over regular plastic lenses. If you are able to fill your prescription using standard CR-39 plastic, you can fill it with Transitions.

Biff:

I have transitions too. When I got them, the doctor specifically told me not to expect to have them change while in the car because windshields in almost all cars are already UV protectant, and transitions change shade via UV light.

I have heard of OptiMart but I don't know what area you live in. Sorry, I can't be of better help there. As far as what to look for when purchasing eyeglasses, really the main thing is making sure that you choose a pair of glasses that are right for your needs rather that what someone else feels is good for you.

Listen to the optician, as there are quite a few options available. Based off what you have told me I am unsure if you need eyeglasses for distance (i.e. driving) or if you need eyeglasses for up close (i.e. computer). If you need eyeglasses for computer use, I would recommend getting an anti-reflective coating. Actually, it's good to have that for all eyeglasses.

However, one thing with that is the anti-reflective coating scratches very very easily. The great thing about the coating is the reduction of glare, which is much more noticable when using a computer.
