How To Choose The Right Pair of Eyeglasses?
I worked as a certified and licensed optician for over ten years.
Helping people find amazing eyeglasses is a natural talent that combines a fashion sense coupled with an advanced background in understanding optics.
Here are a few examples of pictures that people took of themselves and posted them on the Internet.
Below each picture, I offer my opinion about the eyeglasses they selected.
From there, I hope that this information will help you in choosing your next pair of eyeglasses.
Let’s review some pictures I found on the Internet of people wearing eyeglasses:

The shape and style of these eyeglass frames are perfect. They should be adjusted so that her eyes are more centered. Unfortunately, these eyeglass frames blend in terribly. She should have chosen a dark contrast color. Based on this picture she wants to look trendy. Her hair style is beautiful. I would have recommended going with a high contrast plastic frame with a color that matched her hair.

The shape of these eyeglass frames are fine. However, I would have chosen a metal frame, full rimless style, or drill mount style. The plastic frame gives off a too bulky and clunky appearance.

These eyeglasses are absolutely terrible. This is a style that I would see on a middle to late aged woman. The facial expression on this woman totally emulates my thoughts on this frame selection. The outside corners raise up in the air giving it a somewhat raised potato chip look. I would have selected a thin tortoise shell color plastic frame and with less rounded corners and more rectangular.

Perfect! Excellent choice of size, shape and style. I would have chosen the same exact style but in a thinner black plastic design. Very cute.

The shape is good. Size and color are nice. The temples (e.g. the eyeglass frame arms) are way too thick. I would have selected the same frame front style but found a thinner temple design. Eyes are centered properly, shape and color match this individual’s face nicely.

Very pretty. The color, style and shape is perfect. However, one thing that bothers me is that the frames fit way too low on her face and droop down. Everything looks really nice except for that. It is obvious that this lady is going for a very casual and conservative look. Nothing wrong with that… these eyeglasses fit her appearance well.

Perfect! Absolutely perfect. Perfect color, amazing shape and size and the style totally is a match. Nice work!

It is very hard to find examples of men on the Internet. It seems that men don’t like to purposely snap pictures of themselves showing off their eyeglasses. This individual has a nice trendy frame. I would have gone black and less deep. The style is great and it is designed to draw much attention to the individuals face. This individual needs to do something with his nose. His nose has red blotchy spots all over it. Either he should clear up his skin or choose a frame that blends and puts less focus on his face. I would choose clearing up the skin because the frames if they were black would have been nice.

Very appealing. Wonderful selection, trendy, light weight and perfect shape size and color. This eyeglass frame fits this individual perfectly. She is confident and very proud and you can tell she enjoys her eyeglasses. Excellent job.

Terrible. If you have a rounded face never choose square, circular or oval shaped eyeglass frames. Secondly, do not choose a frame where the width of your head exceeds the width of the face front of the eyeglass frame. This individual should have chosen a rectangular frame with a width that matched the horizontal width of his head. Thirdly the vertical width should have been somewhat narrow as well.

Got it…

Travis,
You might want to re-read the article again… perhaps even a third time if necessary. That is clearly not what I said.

No, Travis, you misread. Only young people should have thin-rimmed, rectangular framed black glasses. Old people should have Huge, plastic, circular framed, pastel colored glasses.

Hi Jay,
That would be kind of hard to do without knowing what you looked like. If you are a bigger guy, you might want to consider getting a set of sunglasses where the temples curve, they way you don’t have a lot of pressure on the sides of your head. Not being stereotypical, but a lot of guys who like Oakleys are bigger guys. Comfort would be my main focus since it might be possible that you’d be wearing them most of the day.

Any suggestions for a man with a rectangular/square, jawline and face shape with deep set eyes… My husband hates the look of all glasses on him. And we don’t even know where to start…
